Dateline: June 25, 2014; Grand Tetons National Park, WY
Waking up in Grand Teton National Park was wonderful. Our campsite was right near the creek. Liza got up and took some pictures of wildflowers (which you can see
here on Flickr if you are so inclined - you can also see Liza's bird photos
here). Once everyone else was up, we decided to go to another site in the same campground. We found a great site and decided we'd get set up there for our next two nights. We set up the kids' tents and then headed off for a drive to get familiar with the park.
We visited the Visitor's Center which was very informative. It had a great museum and an interesting film. From there, we drove up to Jenny Lake. The scenery is so beautiful. We found a spot to drop Gage off for a short run along the lake.
After our brief drive, we went into Jackson, went grocery shopping, and had lunch. We went back to camp and then took a much longer drive. We drove all the way up to the top of the park and went to look at some boondocking sites Greg had heard about in the Forest Service land north of the park. Along the way, we saw the Mormon Row section of the park and we saw a herd of bison decide to cross the highway. There were people all around standing near their cars which is a little scary since the bison were pretty feisty and irritated. We saw some amazing countryside. Grand Tetons are well worth a visit.
As we were driving, Gage started feeling crummy by the time we got back to camp, he was feeling truly awful. Suffice it to say, he had a rotten night. Poor kid. What a trooper. This is the first time we've had major illness, thank goodness. (Knock on wood!)
