Day 2: Calico Ghost Town, CA to Las Vegas, NV

We got up early in Calico and had a quick tour of the town.  Even at 9:30 am, ice cream sounded good as it was hot!

We headed off for Vegas before the heat got any worse as the Baker Grade is long and slow and hot and we wanted to get through it before it got any hotter.

Vegas, Baby!

We arrived in Las Vegas and checked in at Circus Circus.  Behind the hotel, they have an RV park, right there on The Strip.  We got all settled, turned on the AC (as it is really a big, hot parking lot) and took naps.  Once we'd recovered, we headed off to Bass Pro Outdoor World.  It's a huge outdoor goods store . . . truly huge and overwhelming.  We got some water shoes, some swimming stuff, and some flashlights.  Then we headed off to the RV park to change for dinner.

The RV Park behind Circus Circus -- it's a hot parking lot but the people are very nice!

We met our friend, Tom, and his daughter at a restaurant near where they live.  Great mexican food and fantastic margaritas!  YUM! Tom and Greg went to grad school together so we've been friends for a very long time!  It was great to see him again!  We were sorry we missed his wife, Val, and son this year but you can't have everything!

We drove through the Strip to see the lights.  We got lucky and caught the light at Bellagio just as the fountain display went off -- it was a long light and we enjoyed the show immensely.

And, so, to bed.  We are not big party people, especially with the kids in tow.  So, that's how we do Vegas, these days!
